Niš, the third largest city in Serbia, is located in southern Serbia not far from the Nišava River. Niš is the administrative center of the Nišava District.
The ethnic population of Niš is primarily Serb and Roma; other groups living in Niš are Montenegrins, Bulgarians, Croats, and Yugoslavs. The population of the city, recorded during the 2011 census, is 183,164.
Niš covers an area of 597 square kilometers. The average annual temperature is 53.4° F, ranging from an average of 33.1° F in January to 72.5° F in July.
The primary industries located in Niš are electronics, textiles, tobacco, and mechanical engineering.
